The features

What Commercium automates

Shopify → Walmart

Product sync

Shopify products and variants are set up on Walmart against the right product type, with images, attributes, GTINs and variant groups, and tracked through to published.

Shopify → Walmart

Inventory sync

Available quantity from the Shopify locations you pick is buffered and pushed to Walmart per ship node, so every item shows stock you can actually ship.

Walmart → Shopify

Order sync

Walmart orders are acknowledged as soon as they are imported and land in Shopify as native orders, tagged Walmart, with customer notifications suppressed.

Shopify → Walmart

Shipment sync

When you fulfil in Shopify, the carrier, shipping method and tracking go to Walmart and the order lines are marked shipped within your lag time.

Walmart → Shopify

Refund sync

Refunds issued on Walmart, for returns or customer care, are recorded against the original Shopify order and returned items are restocked to the right location.

Both directions

Cancel sync

Customer cancellations on Walmart cancel the Shopify order lines; items you cannot ship are cancelled on Walmart from Shopify with a reason.

Need a flow that is not listed?

Extra ship nodes, WFS order import, more seller accounts or custom metafields are set up during onboarding.

Talk to us
How it works

From demo to a live Walmart channel on Shopify

Seven steps from the first conversation to a controlled go-live: your Walmart API keys, Shopify and Walmart connections, product type, item, inventory, order, cancellation and refund configuration, then a verified test before you go live.

Step 1 of 7

Book a demo & scope the setup

Tell us how you sell on Walmart today and how your Shopify store and warehouses are set up. We walk through the integration on a live call and show you how Shopify and Walmart will work together.

Flows confirmed: product, inventory, order, shipment, cancel and refund
How many Walmart seller accounts are involved
New items, existing items, or both
Which Shopify locations map to which Walmart ship nodes
How Walmart orders should be created in Shopify (tags, notifications, location)
Plan and integration requirements confirmed before you subscribe
Step 2 of 7

Get your Walmart Marketplace API keys

Commercium connects to your approved Walmart seller account with API keys generated in Seller Center. We help you check the account is ready before anything is connected.

Walmart Marketplace seller account approved
API client ID and secret generated in Seller Center
Ship nodes, shipping templates and lag time set up
Carriers and shipping methods reviewed
Step 3 of 7

Log in to the Commercium portal

You get access to the Commercium portal, where connections, mappings, sync logs and alerts live for both platforms.

Portal account created for your team
Users invited with the right roles
Notification email for sync, item and performance alerts set
Step 4 of 7

Connect Shopify in Commercium

Commercium connects to Shopify through our Shopify App Store app or with Admin API credentials from a custom app you create.

Store URL confirmed
App installed or Admin API credentials added
Access to products, inventory, orders, fulfilments, refunds and metafields approved
Test read of products and locations
Step 5 of 7

Connect Walmart with Commercium

Your Walmart API keys are added so Commercium can set up items, keep inventory current, acknowledge and ship orders, and handle cancellations and refunds.

Client ID and secret added to Commercium
Existing items matched to Shopify variants by SKU or GTIN
Shopify locations mapped to Walmart ship nodes
Open orders reviewed before first import
Step 6 of 7

Configure items, inventory, orders & refunds

We map how each record moves between the two platforms so your warehouse and finance teams see exactly what they expect.

Shopify product types mapped to Walmart product types and attributes
Variant groups and GTINs set up
Safety buffer and lag time per item or template
Order acknowledgement, tags, notifications and location
Carrier and shipping method mapping
Cancellation reasons and refund rules agreed
Step 7 of 7

Test, verify & go live

Every flow is run on real data before switching on: an item set up and published, stock pushed, a test order acknowledged, imported and shipped, and a cancellation and refund reflected on both sides.

Item published on Walmart with no errors
Stock changes seen on Walmart within minutes
Test order acknowledged and created as a tagged Shopify order
Tracking uploaded and order lines marked shipped
Cancellation and refund reflected on both sides
Go-live date agreed and sync switched on
About the platform

What Walmart Marketplace is, and what selling on it involves

Walmart Marketplace lets approved third-party sellers list on Walmart.com, one of the most visited retail sites in the US, alongside Walmart's own range. Sellers manage the account through Seller Center and the Walmart Marketplace API, and fulfil orders themselves or through Walmart Fulfillment Services.

What to know about Walmart

A curated marketplace, not open sign-up

Walmart Marketplace accepts sellers through an application and review. Approved sellers list alongside Walmart's own retail range on Walmart.com, under their own seller name.

One item page per product

Walmart matches offers to a single item page, keyed on product identifiers such as GTIN or UPC. Products without one can be created through Walmart's GTIN exemption process.

Product type drives the data

Each product type has its own required and recommended attributes. Complete, accurate attributes decide whether an item publishes and how well it is found.

Two ways to fulfil

Sellers can ship orders from their own warehouses or 3PL, or send stock into Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) and let Walmart pick, pack and ship.

Shipping templates set the promise

Seller-fulfilled items are assigned to shipping templates that define methods, regions and transit times, the delivery date a customer sees comes from them.

Performance is measured

Walmart tracks on-time delivery, valid tracking, cancellations and refunds. Staying inside the standards protects your listings and Buy Box eligibility.

Field experience

What we learnt while integrating Walmart for our users

Working notes from live Walmart Marketplace integrations, the things that decide whether a Walmart account runs quietly, and how each one became automation inside Commercium.

Walmart bulk updates are asynchronous, so we track every feed

Walmart supports bulk, feed-based uploads for products, inventory and prices. A feed is accepted first and processed later: Walmart returns a feed ID, and the result, including which individual items failed and why, only appears when you check the feed status. Feed submissions are also rate-limited. Integrations that fire and forget end up with items that silently never published. Commercium batches updates into feeds within Walmart's limits, follows each feed ID until it completes, and surfaces item-level errors so only the failed lines are fixed and resent.

Failed lines fixed and resubmitted only
Feed lifecycle

2Feed submitted → feed ID returned
3Feed status checked until processed

Shipping templates set the delivery promise, keep them honest

Walmart supports templated shipping policies for seller-fulfilled items. A shipping template defines shipping methods, such as value, standard, two-day, one-day and freight, along with regions and transit times, and each SKU is assigned to a template. The delivery date a customer sees comes from that template, so a template that promises more than your warehouse can do turns directly into late deliveries. Commercium reads your templates, assigns them per SKU or product group, and keeps freight and oversized items on their own template.

No GTIN doesn't mean no Walmart listing

Private-label, handmade and bundled products often have no barcode, GTIN or other global identifier, and many sellers assume that rules them out of Walmart. Walmart offers a GTIN exemption path for these products. Items created this way can go through an extra review before they publish, so a feed may finish while the item itself is still pending. Commercium helps you create these products with the exemption, and keeps following each item until its review completes.

Product path
Product without GTIN Commercium GTIN exemption Live on Walmart

Attributes decide if an item publishes

Each Walmart product type has its own required attributes. Most item errors we see are missing or mis-formatted attributes, so we validate against the product type before the feed is sent.

Acknowledge orders quickly

Walmart orders need to be acknowledged before they ship. Acknowledging automatically on import keeps orders moving and avoids them sitting unconfirmed in Seller Center.

Carrier names must match Walmart's list

Valid tracking depends on carrier names Walmart recognises. We map each carrier and service from your shipping app to Walmart's accepted values so tracking is counted as valid.

Inventory belongs to a ship node

Sellers with more than one warehouse publish stock per ship node. Sending one pooled number to the wrong node promises stock a warehouse cannot ship; we keep feeds per location.

Refunds are line-level

Walmart refunds and cancels per order line, often partially. Syncing at line level keeps ERP credit memos and stock adjustments matched to exactly what Walmart refunded.

Settlements need order-level detail

A Walmart payout combines sales, fees, commissions and refunds. Matching settlement lines back to individual orders is what makes Walmart revenue reconcile in accounting.

Working notes from our integration team, we update this section as Walmart's requirements change.

FAQ's

Shopify + Walmart questions, answered

Technical questions about how the two platforms sync, and general questions about running on Commercium.

Can Commercium create products on Walmart?
Yes. Commercium sets up Shopify products and variants as Walmart items against the right product type, with attributes, images, GTINs and variant groups, and tracks each item until it is published.
Can Walmart orders be sent to my ERP?
Yes. Walmart orders can be transformed and sent to supported ERP, ecommerce, OMS, WMS, accounting or fulfilment systems.
Can Commercium help new Walmart sellers?
Yes. Commercium works with businesses during onboarding to prepare product data, connect systems, configure mappings and establish operational workflows.
Can I connect more than one seller account of Walmart using Commercium?
Yes, you can add as many seller accounts as you want while remaining on your same plan using Commercium. You only upgrade when you cross your plan's order limits.
What are the next steps to connect Shopify to Walmart using Commercium?
Book a demo so we can scope your flows, items and ship nodes. Generate your Walmart Marketplace API keys in Seller Center. Log in to the Commercium portal. Connect Shopify through our app or Admin API credentials. Connect Walmart, match existing items and map ship nodes. Configure product types, inventory, orders, cancellations and refunds with our team. Test every flow on real data and go live.
Which flows does Commercium sync between Shopify and Walmart?
Six: product and inventory (Shopify to Walmart), orders (Walmart to Shopify), shipments with tracking (Shopify to Walmart), cancellations (both directions) and refunds (Walmart to Shopify).
Can Commercium work with my existing Walmart items?
Yes. During onboarding, existing items are matched to Shopify variants by SKU or GTIN, so inventory and orders start flowing without recreating them. New products can then be set up from Shopify.
How are Walmart orders acknowledged?
Commercium acknowledges each new Walmart order as soon as it is imported, then creates it in Shopify tagged Walmart with the ship-by date, customer notifications suppressed and the Walmart purchase order number stored.
How does inventory sync work with Walmart ship nodes?
Each Shopify location is mapped to a Walmart ship node. Available quantity, minus any safety buffer, is pushed per SKU and ship node near real-time as stock moves in Shopify.
How is tracking sent to Walmart?
When you fulfil in Shopify, Commercium marks the order lines shipped on Walmart with the carrier, shipping method and tracking number, mapped to Walmart's list. Split shipments are supported.
How do cancellations and refunds sync?
Customer cancellations on Walmart cancel the Shopify order lines, and items you cannot ship are cancelled on Walmart from Shopify with a reason. Refunds issued on Walmart are recorded against the original Shopify order and items are restocked.
Does Commercium sync prices with Walmart?
Not on this integration. Commercium currently syncs products, inventory, orders, shipments, cancellations and refunds; prices are managed in Walmart Seller Center.
Does Commercium support Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS)?
The flows on this page are built around orders you ship yourself. If you also use WFS, we review during onboarding how WFS orders and stock should appear in Shopify, so they never trigger your own warehouse.
Shopify and Walmart, connected as one marketplace operation

Connect through the Commercium app on the Shopify App Store, or with Admin API credentials you approve, plus Walmart Marketplace API keys from Seller Center. Shopify stays the source of truth for catalogue and stock, and every flow is tested on real data before anything goes live.
