Ship retailer orders in ShipStation.
Tracking back to Dsco and OrderStream.

CommerceHub, now Rithum, runs two dropship platforms: Dsco and OrderStream. Commercium drops every retailer order into ShipStation, and the moment your team prints the label, the shipment, carrier and tracking go back to the retailer in its own format.

About the integration

Commercium connects ShipStation to both CommerceHub platforms

Your retailer decides whether you trade on Dsco or OrderStream. Your warehouse keeps working in ShipStation. Commercium sits between them, routing orders in, and getting acknowledgements, tracking and paperwork back out on time.

01 ShipStation × Dsco

Connect ShipStation to Dsco using Commercium

Dsco is Rithum’s API-first dropship network, used by retailers such as Nordstrom, Chewy, Kohl’s and Zappos. Commercium connects over the Dsco REST API, creates each trading partner’s orders in ShipStation and returns acknowledgements, shipments and tracking as soon as your labels are printed.

How it works

How the ShipStation + CommerceHub integration gets done

Five steps from first call to live sync, the same process whether you ship for Dsco retailers, OrderStream retailers or both.

1

Book a demo with Commercium

Tell us which retailers invited you, whether they trade on Dsco, OrderStream or both, and how your ShipStation warehouses, stores and carriers are set up.

2

Get your credentials ready

Dsco: your account API key. OrderStream: account and exchange credentials, facility IDs and each retailer’s document set. ShipStation: your API key and secret.

3

Meet your integration engineer

Your engineer connects ShipStation once, then maps SKUs, warehouses, carrier accounts, service codes and fields per retailer. Onboarding takes 1–2 hours once the details are provided.

4

Test every flow

Orders land in ShipStation, test labels are created and voided, and acknowledgements, shipments, invoices and packing slips are checked in Dsco’s onboarding interface and the OrderStream sandbox.

5

Go live & monitor

We switch each connection live, contacting Dsco support where required. Commercium runs the workflows and flags any order that hasn’t shipped before its retailer deadline.

Not sure which platform your retailer uses?

Send us the retailer’s onboarding email. We’ll confirm whether it’s Dsco or OrderStream, which documents it requires and which carrier account it wants you to ship on.

About the platforms

ShipStation, CommerceHub and the two platforms behind it

One side is where your team prints labels. The other is a retailer-run network where each programme sets its own rules. The integration’s job is to keep the two in step on every order.

ShipStation

Your shipping & label workstation

ShipStation is web-based shipping software used by warehouses and 3PLs to pull in orders, compare carrier rates, batch-print labels and send tracking. Orders sit in stores, automation rules assign carriers and packages, and shipments fire webhooks the moment a label is created, which makes it the natural place to run retailer dropship fulfilment.

CommerceHub (Rithum)

Retailer dropship & marketplace network

CommerceHub built the connections large retailers use to run dropship programmes. After merging with ChannelAdvisor, the business now operates as Rithum. Two of its platforms matter to suppliers: Dsco and OrderStream. The retailer invites you onto one and sets the rules, response windows, carriers, shipping accounts and paperwork.

Field experience

What we learnt integrating ShipStation with CommerceHub

Real-world notes from warehouses shipping Dsco and OrderStream orders out of ShipStation, and how each lesson became automation inside Commercium.

Most retailers want you to ship on their carrier account

Many dropship programmes pay for shipping themselves: they give you a UPS or FedEx account number and a required service level, and a label on your own account becomes a chargeback. Commercium carries the retailer’s shipping instructions onto each ShipStation order and pairs them with automation rules, so labels bill the right account without anyone checking by hand.

How a retailer order gets its label

3 Automation rule sets billing account
4 Label printed on the right account

Ship speed is scored from the moment tracking arrives

Retailers measure on-time shipping by when they receive the shipment and tracking, not when the box leaves the dock. Waiting for a nightly batch costs scorecard points. Commercium listens for ShipStation’s label events and confirms the shipment on Dsco or OrderStream within minutes, with the carrier and service translated into the codes each retailer accepts.

What happens when a label prints
1 Label created in ShipStation
2 Shipment event received by Commercium
3 Carrier & service mapped per retailer
4 Shipment confirmed on Dsco or OrderStream

One ShipStation store per retailer keeps rules clean

Giving each retailer its own store and tag lets automation rules pick the right carrier, package and packing slip without anyone reading the order notes.

Voided labels must not reach the retailer

Labels get reprinted. We hold shipment confirmation briefly after the label event and drop voided labels, so the retailer only ever sees the tracking number that actually shipped.

Multi-package orders need package-level shipments

Large orders often leave in several boxes. Each ShipStation shipment is sent as its own package with its own tracking, weight and line quantities.

The retailer’s slip, not ShipStation’s

Retailers want their own branding and no pricing on the slip. Dsco slips are retrieved, OrderStream slips are generated, and both print alongside the ShipStation label.

ShipStation isn’t your catalogue

ShipStation holds SKUs, weights and dimensions, not product content. Item setup on each retailer runs from your store, PIM or ERP, we plan that separately from day one.

The daily full inventory file is policy

OrderStream mandates a full inventory upload once a day. We run it from ShipStation warehouse stock for compliance and push real-time deltas in between.

Response windows run through weekends

Acknowledgement deadlines are measured in hours. Automating the response against live ShipStation stock keeps scorecards clean when the warehouse is closed.

Test with real labels, then void them

We create and void test labels in ShipStation against Dsco’s onboarding interface and the OrderStream sandbox, so the first live shipment is never the first shipment.

FAQ'S

ShipStation + CommerceHub questions, answered

Technical questions about shipping Dsco and OrderStream orders from ShipStation, and general questions about running on Commercium.

How do CommerceHub orders get into ShipStation?

Commercium downloads orders from Dsco and OrderStream on a schedule and creates them in ShipStation, one store per retailer, tagged by retailer and platform, with the ship-by date, requested carrier and service level, ship-to address and dropship cost carried across.

When is tracking sent back to the retailer?

As soon as the label is created. Commercium listens for ShipStation shipment events, maps the carrier and service to the codes each retailer accepts, and confirms the shipment on Dsco or OrderStream, usually within minutes of printing.

What happens if a label is voided and reprinted?

Shipment confirmation is held briefly after the label event and voided labels are dropped, so only the tracking number that actually ships reaches the retailer. If a label is voided after confirmation, the order is flagged for review.

Can I ship on the retailer’s own UPS or FedEx account?

Yes. The retailer’s shipping account and required service are carried onto the ShipStation order, and automation rules apply third-party billing so the label is charged to the right account.

Are multi-package and split shipments supported?

Yes. Each ShipStation shipment is sent as its own package with its own tracking number, weight and line quantities, and partial shipments are confirmed per package or line.

How is order acknowledgement handled?

Orders are checked against ShipStation warehouse stock and acknowledged automatically under your rules, accepting, backordering or cancelling lines. Orders approaching a retailer’s response window are escalated before the deadline passes.

Where does inventory come from?

From ShipStation’s warehouse inventory, or from your ERP or WMS if that’s where stock is mastered. You choose which warehouses contribute; quantities are pooled, buffered per retailer and pushed to Dsco and OrderStream in near real time.

How does the OrderStream daily full inventory upload work?

OrderStream policy mandates a full inventory upload once a day. Commercium performs it to maintain compliance and runs real-time updates alongside it, so availability never goes stale between files.

How are packing slips handled?

For Dsco, the retailer’s slip is retrieved per order. For OrderStream, the slip is generated automatically in the retailer’s layout. Either way it is printed alongside the ShipStation label, without shopper-facing pricing.

Does Commercium upload invoices to OrderStream?

Yes, where the retailer requires it. Invoices are built from the PO cost and ShipStation shipment data and mapped to each retailer’s fields. Retailers that auto-invoice are skipped.

Can Commercium create products on CommerceHub?

On Dsco, yes, but ShipStation only holds SKUs, weights and dimensions, so item content comes from your store, PIM, ERP or a product feed. On OrderStream, item setup follows each retailer’s own process. Once items exist, Commercium runs orders, inventory and shipping from ShipStation.

Can I use ShipStation alongside my Shopify, Amazon or other channels?

Yes. CommerceHub orders arrive in their own ShipStation stores, next to the orders from your other channels, so your team works one queue. Commercium only manages the CommerceHub stores it creates.

Can CommerceHub orders also be sent to my ERP?

Yes. Dsco and OrderStream orders can be sent to supported ERP, OMS, WMS or accounting systems at the same time as ShipStation, with shipment and tracking data flowing back to the retailer from ShipStation.

Do I need a ShipStation plan with API access?

Commercium connects with your ShipStation API key and secret. Any plan that includes API access works; we confirm this during the demo.

Can I connect more than one ShipStation account or warehouse?

Yes. Multiple ShipStation accounts and warehouses are supported on the same plan, and routing rules decide which warehouse ships each retailer’s orders.

Can I connect more than one seller account of CommerceHub using Commercium?

Yes, you can add as many Dsco and OrderStream seller accounts as you want while remaining on your same plan. You only upgrade when you cross your plan’s order limits.

What is the difference between CommerceHub, Rithum, Dsco and OrderStream?

CommerceHub merged with ChannelAdvisor and now operates as Rithum. Rithum owns two dropship platforms: Dsco, an API-first retailer–supplier network, and OrderStream, a document-driven platform where each retailer sets its own document set. Commercium connects ShipStation to both.

How do I know whether my retailer uses Dsco or OrderStream?

The retailer’s onboarding invitation will name the platform. If you’re unsure, send it to us, we’ll confirm the platform, the documents it requires and the carrier account it expects before your first call.

Is there a test environment before going live?

Yes, on both. We create and void test labels in ShipStation against Dsco’s onboarding interface and the OrderStream sandbox, checking orders, acknowledgements, shipments, invoices and packing slips before anything goes live.

What are the next steps to connect ShipStation to CommerceHub using Commercium?

First, book a demo and tell us which retailers invited you, whether they trade on Dsco, OrderStream or both, and how your ShipStation warehouses and carriers are set up.

Second, get your credentials ready, your Dsco account API key; your OrderStream account and exchange credentials, facility IDs and each retailer’s document set; and your ShipStation API key and secret.

Third, meet your integration engineer, who connects ShipStation once and maps SKUs, warehouses, carrier accounts and service codes per retailer. Onboarding takes 1–2 hours once the details are provided.

Fourth, test every flow in Dsco’s onboarding interface and the OrderStream sandbox. Fifth, go live: we switch each connection on, contacting Dsco support where required, and Commercium monitors the workflows.

Can I add another retailer later?

Yes. Once ShipStation and your CommerceHub accounts are connected, a new retailer is a new store and profile over the same setup. A Dsco trading partner we haven’t worked with before can usually be added within a day.

Still have a question about your setup?

Tell us your ShipStation warehouses, your Dsco and OrderStream retailers and the carrier accounts you ship on, and we’ll tell you exactly what the integration looks like.
